Key Codes
The key codes from each of the four workshops are listed here
All of the overlapping design codes from all of the workshop groups have been laid out on this page.
Each group has covered at least one aspect of each morphological layer and this is how the codes will be sectioned of.
Green & Water Features
-
In relation to biodiveristy, avoid chopping down/reallocating trees as much as possible. The developments which have listed species on site much accommodate a park to preserve them.
-
In relation to water filtration, the creation of small green areas along both side of the canal is mandatory. The use of Apply Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) will be used to treat water pollution. Ensure safety by waist-height vegetation barriers along the canal.
-
Improving the canal and covering ditches.
Streets
-
Pedestrian sidewalks accommodate sufficient space for pedestrian (minimum 2m each). Cycle paths have designate separate lanes from other vehicles. On the streets which have large volume of traffic, cycle paths must be clearly distinct by physical markers. In relation to car parking, on street parking is only allowed in designated areas and off-street parking must be incorporated in the plots.
-
Different kind of streets, in this case there are two main types of streets designed for the neighbourhood which are residential street and home zone.
Blocks
-
Each block has to have comfortable size to it in order to make it walkable for pedestrians.
-
The blocks have to have diversity and to do so the blocks have to be defined in accordance with street patterns and convenient access. The blocks should also be varied to accommodate different density.
Plots
-
Integration with the surrounding areas to feel part of the community.
-
The plots need to have diversity through their sizes and they are managed by a plot passport system and the merging of plots is regulated in accordance with plot passport.
-
Two to three types of plot dimensions for single housing to give a variety in each block.
-
All of the single housing needs to have gardens for various uses such as private space and an area to keep live stock.
-
Flats will have three floors maximum.
Building Details
- High percentage of opening onto the streets (with a minimum of 40%).
Open Spaces
-
Create many pocket parks on the site as possible. A development must dedicate 10% of total area for green spaces. 5% of which is for passive activities such as resting, sitting and the other is for active activities. The site must also incorporate 3% of total areas for institutional use.
Street Furniture
-
All street furniture must be aligned on a strip of 1.2m to avoid obstructing movement.
-
Materials used include permeable pavement, materials with care to people with reduced mobility.
